Our most recent set of displays for SCA Americas were designed as a cost-effective solution to display products and literature to visitors entering the lobby space on the 24th floor of the Cira Center. This set of four freestanding displays use aluminum, maple hardwood, high quality PVC board, and custom laser cut clear acrylic to match the beautiful Swedish interior design of the SCA office’s.

Maple veneered slat-wall with adjustable literature holders also hold 3 maple shelves to display freestanding products while laser cut acrylic pegboard panels provide a versatile mounting solution for wall-mounted products. A “Welcome” display was designed to hold interchangeable printed material to provide information to visitors. Using a slim plastic hinge and inset magnets as a seamless “latch”, information can be easily added or removed. We also utilized our vinyl cutter, creating SCA’s logo using etched glass transparent vinyl.

All aluminum fabrication was once again expertly handled by our friends at RaceSeng Design. To get an idea of the level of detail these guys think at, check out the fastener detail on the back of the displays (pictured below). RaceSeng also sourced the powder coating, giving the bright white finish protection from UV damage in the sunny SCA lobby.

Aluminum displays were designed in-house at Studio KMD for the SCA AmericasDispenser Innovation Team located in Center City, Philadelphia. The all Aluminum construction provides a strong, lightweight product that is easy to maneuver with the help of 2 1/2″ Diameter twin wheel locking Urethane castors.

Five large displays were fabricated as room dividers with 47″ x 95″ of useable pegboard display area. Eight matching smaller displays were also designed to provide Designers and Researchers with a manageable display space within each of their personal offices.

These units will be utilized to display a wide range of SCA products at meetings, training sessions, and other events.

Each display has been meticulously machined, welded, painted, and constructed by our good friends at RaceSeng Design, Inclocated in Orefield, PA. Check out the entire fabrication process below:

Four identical cabinets were created to display a client’s wide range of products. They are fabricated out of book-matched heavy figure maple plywood which was CNC routed using Solidworks and MasterCAM programs to ensure that each display look and function identically. Brushed aluminum pegboard provides a stylish backdrop while other aluminum detailing and hardware pull together the overall appearance. Each display rolls on locking casters for portability and have the unique ability to expand for a lager display area.

The Fast Freeze was a fully functional Prototype built as a proof of concept for our client to raise investment capital. It was designed to cool wine, beer, soda or any other round bottle to drinking temperature rapidly and also dispensed ice and cold water. He was heading to the International Home and Housewares show so we also whipped up a logo and some vinyl graphics for him.

The body of the prototype consists of brushed aluminum panels, aluminum hardware, laser cut and thermo-formed PMMA panels. The internal components included three water tight PMMA chambers, a removable sealed ball bearing rotational chilling assembly as well as a custom silicon cast duel chamber ice maker.

When prototyping this version of the Fast Freeze we used hand sketching to help resolve many of the issue that developed. This rapid ideation allowed our design team to stay on the same page with this multifaceted product.

The prototype contains 3 pump, 1motor, 5buttons, 1 switch, 2 temperature sensors and a handful of relays. They were all controlled by 2 Arduino micro controllers. The full functionality of the Fast Freeze was coded in the Arduino development environment by Studio KMD. The code used in this project is available upon request to help advance this type of physical prototyping.

These ”E-Bulb” prototypes were designed and fabricated to showcase their unique features and patented technology. A quantity of 30 identical bulbs were built in order to be sent off to both UL and Energy Star testing facilities. A variety of processes and programs were used in the construction including Laser Cutting and CNC machining using both Solidworks and MasterCAM for precise results that could be duplicated as many times as necessary.

Design features included brightness icons to distinguish between the two power level settings, which allow the user to save energy if there is not a need for full brightness. These icons and selector switch are displayed on a flat plane “cut” into the unit. This design element also helps the user identify how to connect the base section to the bulb, another unique feature. By aligning the brass pins of the bulb into the keyhole connection located on the base portion, the light bulb becomes a single seamless unit.

An abundance of heat, generated by the halogen bulb, was taken into consideration by applying a 1.5mm layer of clear silicone to the inside of the glass housing to help dissipate the heat. A highly heat resistant plastic called Acetal was also utilized in the bulb housing.
